The New Jersey Smart Choices Leadership Institute was a four-day intensive workshop held in March 2007 at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
The Leadership Institute brought together seven local teams from eight municipalities across the state: Asbury Park, Fair Haven, Middlesex, Hamilton, Raritan, Orange/West Orange and Toms River. The purpose of the Institute was to:
- Provide community leaders with the knowledge, skills and means to more successfully integrate transportation planning and local land use decision-making;
- Provide an environment where leaders can learn from each other, and join a growing network of committed individuals whose ongoing collaborations will foster smart growth solutions and sustainable community change throughout New Jersey; and
- Seek to identify "champions for change" and provide them with techniques and tools that will allow them to be more effective leaders in their respective municipalities.
