NJ Smart Choices

Building the movement for smart land use
and transportation planning in New Jersey.

2005: The Kick-Off Workshops

The New Jersey Smart Choices project began in the fall of 2005 with a series of four workshops, each of which addressed a different aspect of innovative smart land use and transportation planning in New Jersey. More than 200 government officials, nonprofit and private sector representatives heard from local, state, and national smart growth leaders about their experience implementing smart growth projects.

The four workshops also helped to generate an open discussion between municipalities that are struggling with issues of growth and traffic congestion, and are looking for ways to balance development, redevelopment and preservation with all aspects of transportation.

Below you will find detailed information about the workshops, including proceedings, the PowerPoints presented, and even some short video segments of certain presentations.

Funding for the Leadership Institute was provided by the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
